Given our perspective of Traditional PM thus far in the course – but recognizing that some Agile PM methods may be necessary for your personal overall PM portfolio in the future – which four Agile PM Characteristics would you include in your PM portfolio as a replacement for their Traditional PM Characteristics counterparts? Please explain and discuss why you would substitute each of the four Agile PM Characteristics chosen.

As a replacement for traditional PM characteristics, I would include the following four analogs provided by the Agile PM method: constant adaptation to change, active collaboration, attention to communications, and late fixing of project decisions. I believe that strict adherence to a plan carries certain risks.

Suppose, in the course of creating a project design. It is discovered that the initial requirements do not correspond to the idea of the project. In this case, it is crucial to be able to adapt. It is up to the project manager to ensure that the team and each individual are comfortable. If the focus is on processes, there is a risk of underestimating that employees need help in overcoming difficulties. The success of the entire project depends on how effective the communication is.

Clear performance of contractual obligations and lack of communication with the customer can lead to the client’s inability to be satisfied with the resulting project. It is crucial to coordinate at all stages of the project creation process to avoid such accidents. The relationship with the customer should be primarily built on the principle of equality; respectively, the customer should be given the right to an opinion. The agile approach is aimed at this; the client thus becomes an active participant.

Early fixing of project decisions does not allow changes, depriving the project of flexibility. The decision to launch projects is always made in a resource-constrained environment. Decisions are made based on an analysis of the decision maker’s goals, the available ways to achieve these goals and other factors. Accordingly, there is a high risk that new circumstances will open up or that the plans will change, and therefore the final decision must be delayed in time.
