Management activities happen simultaneously as controlling means permanent editing of plans and organizing. “Leaders often step up as needed when a crisis or unexpected bump demands immediate action.” When a crisis comes, only leaders can inspire people to overcome it by reconstructing why they do their job.

In ThyssenKrupp, the leading function was not correctly accomplished because labor unions opposed the shift from steel production to elevator manufacturing. Leaders did not get their support; they did not make them believe in the company’s plans. I often used management functions in my life, for example, when I was studying for exams. I set goals, organized my daily schedule, controlled my progress, and led myself to achieve what I believed was essential.
