Otherwise known as the Plan of Ayala, it was a document created by Emiliano Zapata. In it, Zapata, a rebellion leader, expressed his sentiments against the current president, Madero, and denounced him before introducing his reforms. The document bears the name Ayala because it was first announced in the town of the same name in 1911. At the beginning of the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), Zapata sided with Madero in order to challenge the previous president, Porfirio Díaz. However, Zapata’s efforts were discouraged, and his army was asked to disarm. Unsatisfied with the change in government, the revolution leader developed the Plan. This document contained a denouncement of the president as well as the announcement of new leaders and an active Junta. Moreover, Zapata promised to return or share taken and government property with citizens. Although Zapata did not reach an agreement with other revolutionaries, his document encouraged the peasantry to support the revolution which led to extensive reforms.
