The war on terrorism is one of the main challenges of the modern world. Instability in various regions and the increasing power of radical groups introduced the need for immediate intervention to avoid new victims and attacks. For this reason, a military campaign became one of the methods to solve the topical problem. However, the current level of success remains doubtful as there are no signs of the situation’s stabilization.
There are several reasons for this statement. First, despite some obvious advances in fighting against ISIS and other terrorist groups in the Middle East, the main causes for the emergence of such terrorist groups are not eliminated. There are still many cultural and ethical conflicts between representatives of different groups living in the most unstable regions. That is why new volunteers will join radical groups because of their dissatisfaction with their states or some other issues.
Additionally, today, terrorism is an important part of the international discourse that is used to put pressure on some actors or achieve desired goals. The difference in paradigms on radical groups results in the absence of consensus between the leaders of the war on terrorism, such as Russia and the USA. For this reason, it is impossible to state that all goals are achieved and the international community succeeded in fighting against terrorism.
There are still multiple threats that should be considered by organizations like the UN or NATO with the primary aim to guarantee security to people globally. The war on terrorism is not ended, and there is a need for cooperation between all states with the primary goal to discuss the main reasons for the emergence of these problems and eliminate them.
