For this discussion, you need to find “two of the same:” two songs by two different people, two interpretations of art (poetry and painting), and two versions of history (monologue and image). Find a story that has been reinterpreted. Do your best to provide a link or attachment to both parts of your “two of the same.” Explain the meaning and connection to your choices. What do they mean? How are they the same or different? Work to understand the aesthetics of both “things.”

Cyndi Lauper’s song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” released in 1983, was originally written and recorded in a demo version by Robert Hazard in 1979. Although it is the same song, singing it from the perspectives of a man and a woman gives it completely different meanings. The version of Hazard is a dynamic and aggressive rock song supported by the roughness of his vocal – in it, a man mentions the desire of women to have fun in a frivolous way and their carelessness in feelings.

In turn, the version of Lauper is a dance hit with a jovial tune that has changed its message significantly. It may be regarded as a feminist anthem that empowers women – with her unique sounding and cheerful vocals, Cyndi states that they have the same rights as men and may do whatever they want as well. Nevertheless, both of these versions are outstanding and deserve listeners’ attention.
