Picture (as shown below) displays a graph where data is misrepresented and misleads a reader. The chart was created and published online by The White House Archive and is meant to represent the increase in the number of high school graduates in the US over the years. The primary idea of this work is to showcase the success that the country’s policy had on individuals in regard to education. However, the information is showcased in a wrong structured manner, leading to a feeling of confusion for a reader.

Firstly, the idea of using books instead of standard blocks that are applied in charts fosters confusion because the number of books does not correspond to the percentage shown above them. The first block has five books and equals 75%, while the third block is estimated to be at 78% with only ten books. This factor contradicts the logic, and thus a person looking at the graph may misunderstand the meaning of it. Transforming this into a column chart would provide a better data representation. The second issue is the fact that although this is a chart, it lacks the x and y-axis. Adding two components is necessary to mark the beginning point for the data. By having a scale from zero to seventy-five present, a viewer would be able to perceive the information better.

Additionally, the choice to cite two years in each category is confusing as well. It would suffice to point out one date, for instance, graduation rates in 2014, 2015, and 2015. By applying these components, one would be able to understand that the growth rate was not as dramatic as was presented in the original chart because the difference between years 2013 and 2014 is only 1% of graduates.
