Explain the regulation of Acid-Base balance within the body.

Acid-base balance refers to the ratio of acidic and alkaline elements in the body that helps it to operate properly. This balance is usually defined as pH and normally ranges from 7.35 to 7.45 in the blood. In this regard, when the pH level is lower than the latter values, such a state is called acidosis. As such, it can cause nausea, headaches, arrhythmia, weaker cardiac output, and intracranial pressure, to name a few symptoms. On the other hand, when the pH level is greater than normal, such a state is called alkalosis, which can lead to increased muscle spasms, hand tremors, numbness in the limbs, irritability, and nausea.
