Explain the importance of stories in organizational cultures.

The stories that employees tell are often different from the stories used for marketing. For example, an organization might be praising itself for comprehensive career tracks for its employees while the employees themselves know that it is nothing but a shiny facade and warn each other about stagnancy. The stories reflect the dominant morale within the organization, people’s motivation, and attitudes toward work and shared goals. Stories are not easy to control, and yet, they spread fast and affect job performance and engagement.
