The main difference between pain and suffering is that pain is what happens to a person, while suffering is what is being done with the pain. Even though changing a person’s perception of the concept can be difficult, it is possible. It is possible to avoid or lessen the actual suffering based on what a person chooses to do with the pain that they experience. In many ways, pain cannot be controlled, while suffering is often a choice, especially when a person is caught up in negative feelings and emotions, spending too much time focusing on the sources of the pain.
