A classic example of an unsupervised learning method is the one used in a self-organizing feature map or Kohonen map neural network. The network can learn to classify input data without being given any training information and classifications to be applied. For instance, it can cluster similar documents downloaded from the internet and give information about the distinct subjects mentioned there.
