Previously, glial cells were attributed only to an auxiliary role, namely, protecting neurons and providing them with energy. However, it turned out that these cells are responsible for the normal functioning of the brain.
Researchers found that they are involved in transmitting signals, such as pain. For example, when someone gets bitten or cut, these cells form a network in the outer layers of the skin, where the signal from mechanical action occurs.
