Explain and evaluate Benedictus de Spinoza’s view that we are determined to be free in the context of the notion of free will.

Spinoza argues that there is no personal immortality even after death. He also suggests that free will is only an illusion and that everything that takes place is a product of the nature of a substance. He further argues that material bodies are under the control of the laws of physics. Everything that happens to the material bodies is completely determined by what takes place before. Using this notion, he states that whatever happens in the mind, like what happens in the body, is inevitable.

Therefore, this idea argues that human brains, like the bodies, have no control over what they do and that people are determined to be free in the context of free will.
