Today there are many religious confessions in the world. Though in comparison with the ancient ages, the religious influence has diminished, religion still plays an important role in modern life. Religion gives people comfort, hope, spiritual satisfaction, and support. It is not uncommon when people to turn to religion in difficult moments of their lives. Religion provides people with models of the behavior they want to follow, governing human behavior through its system of values, moral attitudes, and prohibitions. It can significantly affect large communities and entire states that live according to the laws of this religion.
In addition, religion is an inspiring and preserving factor in the spiritual life of society. It preserves the public cultural heritage, sometimes literally blocking the way to all kinds of vandals. Furthermore, religion contributes to the unification of people and the formation and strengthening of states. But the same religious factor can lead to division and the disintegration of states and societies when large masses of people oppose each other on a religious principle. Religious extremism, unfortunately, remains a relatively common and dangerous phenomenon in the XX century and a source of social tension.
