Do you think the money would be better sent to enforcing immigration laws, such that undocumented immigrants do not immigrate to the U.S. in the first place? Please, use some examples of the immigrant experiences in the text to justify your answer.

The government would better channel the money to enforcing laws of immigration other than spending on labor regulations. This is because enforcing immigration laws is more beneficial to the immigrants and the native citizens. By enforcing the immigration laws, the legalized workers will have an equal opportunity to earn more and move to better jobs. There will also be minimal cases of unfair dismissal from a job; the immigrants’ workers will be obligated to safe working conditions, mandatory breaks, and other overtime pay for the extra hour they work. Through increased enforcement of the immigration laws, the legal status will yield increasing returns over time.

The unauthorized workers tend to concentrate more on lower wage rates to minimize the deportation risks. As they tend to work for lower wages, they become vulnerable to outright exploitation by unscrupulous employers. Channeling of the money will increase enforcement of the immigration reforms. This is a scenario where the government emphasizes reforms that allow undocumented immigrants to be registered; pay the fine and application fee, and then earn legal status if they pass the criminal background check.

The reforms will help control the influx of immigrants in the U.S., as their migration would be based on labor demand. It will help much more as the immigrant employees will have full labor rights, resulting in increased wages and higher worker productivity for all workers in the industry where prominent immigrants are working. The comprehensive immigration reform enforcement will generate an annual increase in the Gross Domestic Product of the United States of at least 0.84% annually. Furthermore, the focus on immigration law enforcement will enable the immigrants to benefit more as they will be entitled to fund their education by investing more. By controlling the immigration, the higher wages the workers will earn will translate into more revenue tax and increased purchasing power of the consumers, which will benefit the United States public treasury.
