Do you think that only certain individuals are attracted to flexible work arrangements (FWAs)? Why or why not?

Yes, only certain individuals are attracted to flexible work arrangements. There are advantages for the employer and the employee in adopting flexibility at work. However, there are significant challenges for the two parties, such as adjusting schedules and compressing workdays. Though not all employees consider working from home a better option, a non-traditional work schedule can bring immense benefits to a business. There are several types of versatile job arrangements such as part-time, flexitime, annualized hours, compressed hours, staggered responsibility sharing, and working remotely.

Moreover, employees with flexible work schedules can meet their household needs and personal responsibilities efficiently. An individual can run family errands and take care of his or her roles with minimal interference from work. However, poor time managers might find it hard to juggle between job and home duties. Versatile work arrangements are suitable for employees with a flexible attitude toward work and can adapt to various working conditions.

Employees save on cost and time when they adopt a flexible work schedule. Since they will be performing duties from a preferred place, there is reduced fuel consumption and less commuting time for the company. Eliminating movement reduces fatigue and increases the available time that can be utilized in productivity. This is beneficial to employees with certain medical conditions such as lung diseases and heart problems.

On the contrary, employers may find it challenging to supervise employees working on flexible work schedules. The lack of contact may result in broken relationships and soured communication between managers at the organization and the workers. Additionally, flexible work hours are a disadvantage to workers who excel in an office environment. Besides, some employees find working from home uncomfortable and feel isolated from the company. Job security is a key concern for employees, and some may not prefer flexible work hours with fears of losing their jobs.
