I think that a desire to live longer comes from a fear of death and a desire to be more fulfilled in life. Working, engaging in hobbies, and being with one’s loved ones, I think all of these aspects can be collectively viewed as something that enriches a person’s life. An attachment to things that make you what you are is what prompts people to wish for a longer life. Similarly, death is a scary concept precisely because it entails an end to what people find to be fulfilling.
