Post-World War II Japan and modern China share some features in common. Japan after the Second World War and present-day China, had to launch a major transformation in many spheres of the economy. Both countries managed to achieve primary goals through the adherence to capitalistic models rather than other forms of governance. Both countries also concentrated on the use of advanced technology and scientific knowledge. Japan after World War II and China of the 21st century underwent substantial urbanization and changed their status from an agricultural to an industrial state. However, the differences between the two countries are also evident. Japan was far much more progressive and open to western approaches and values, which was instrumental in its economic growth. China is considerably more conservative in this respect, which has a negative effect on its further development.
