In my own opinion, government entities should be mandated to deconstruct their buildings at the end of their life spans. Deconstruction of buildings is important in maintaining building and safety standards. This is because it can be considered as a means of reducing waste generations. Thus, taking into consideration that the government is one of the biggest investors in many public utilities and facilities, deconstruction rather than demolition will help in maintaining strict environmental management standards. It is also important for the government to undertake such projects because in doing this, it trains the workers on how to take a building apart. The workers also get the opportunity to learn how to put the buildings together. Since the government is the biggest employer of workers, deconstruction of its own building will act as a way of training a large number of workers en mass.
