Do you believe that managers in a business firm are dependent upon the trust, commitment, and effort of others within the firm? How do you guide the business firm toward a common goal? Can you buy those attitudes and efforts with financial incentives?

I believe that managers in a business firm are dependent upon the trust, commitment, and effort of others within the firm. The cooperative work of a manager and a team brings positive outcomes to an entity. Managers are needed to lead teams and guide them in a proper way. As such, they are the ones who build trust, commitment, and effort within a business structure and sustain its function.

There are several methods on how to run teamwork and cooperation. As it is written in Luke 6:31, the verse that is known as the Golden Rule, a person should “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” By showing an interest and hard work, a manager can motivate others to work effectively. This principle also assists in demonstrating the commitment of a leader to work, setting a common goal for the whole team. Another strategy to increase cooperation among people in the firm is to have team buildings. It was found that team-building activities improve the psychological climate in which teams operate. Team buildings related to sport illustrate an overall increase in team effectiveness and trust of team members in each other.

When trust, commitment, and effort are developed in the firm, it is critical to set a clear goal for the team. Van der Howek et al. claim that a common goal is needed to create a link between managers and working groups. If there is no clear goal, a manager cannot obtain desired results even with significant financial incentives. However, financial incentives are good motivation at the beginning of the work, as employees will feel that their work is valuable.
