Despite the Civil Rights Movement dating back to the last century, its ideas are still relevant today. African-Americans and other racial minorities still experience educational disparities today because of the opportunity gaps. Unequal treatment of students results in African-American youth pushing themselves into criminal acts. Diversity is also struggling today because communities are generally segregated.
The government should make a substantial amount of effort to promote socio-economic and racial diversity and integration within communities. These goals can be achieved by the application of ideas of the previous century. The Civil Rights Movement is still relevant today because society needs effective methods for opposing inequality and injustice. There would be an additional benefit for the minorities if people had speakers like Martin Luther King Jr.
