Managers need to design individualized motivation packages to get everyone motivated since the needs of employees differ. For example, the needs of a computer programmers will change in the course of their career development based on factors such as salary, role perceptions, and conditions of the working environment, among other factors. Managers need to understand their employees and provide them with what they need to keep them motivated.
Increasing the salary of the programmer who is concerned about changing their working role would not motivate them. Besides, Black et al. state that there are a variety of needs associated with hedonism, manifest needs, and instincts. Unless the manager understands the individualized concerns of the staff, it would be difficult for the organization to excel since the performance is based on employees’ zeal.
