The introduction of a new perspective on the subject of interracial and cross-cultural relationships altered during World War II significantly, Roosevelt’s reconsideration of the principles of freedom being one of the major forces behind the observed change. During WWII, the treatment of ethnic minorities in the U.S., including Indians, Mexican-Americans, and Asian-Americans could be described as a breakthrough in the cross-cultural dialogue.

The focus on human rights helped to establish the importance of equity and the promotion of equal rights for everyone. Consequently, the freedoms that were promoted by Roosevelt, including the freedom of speech, and made available to other ethnicities, including Native Americans, Mexicans, and Asian Americans. As a result, all residents of the U.S. contracted the freedom for “independent thought and individual self-expression” as the foundational principles of American democracy.
