Generally, it is unethical for any organization or company to exploit
cultural norms or values of any society in promoting a product. Ethics are the expected codes of conduct, and hence ethically, organizations have to consider norms and values of respective societies or communities where they operate or opt to operate in the future. Furthermore, there are ethical standards that are stipulated to regulate decisions by individual companies in different industries. This is to ensure fair and just competition.
The exploitation of norms and cultures of a society may give a company an unfair competitive advantage over other firms in the industry. The competitive advantage may not be long-term but may affect operations within the respective industry. However, it might also affect the relationship between the company and the respective society.
