Discuss how the social construct of race has been various employed over the years to support political projects of colonization, imperialism, nation‐building, and social injustice. In your response, please use specific examples, references, and definitions.

The newly founded nation would be called the Crescent Republic, a country in East Africa. Creating and promoting a new national identity would suggest realizing the unique qualities of the people, starting from identifying key similarities among a substantial percentage of the population, including ethnicity, culture, genealogy, language, customary laws, and religion.

These are vital characteristics of national identity since they highlight how different the nation will be. Individuals possessing these traits will be identified as directly belonging to the Crescent Republic. To emphasize their importance in national identity, the administration will ensure that they are in the proper interests of the people and focus on protecting them. Another critical area is understanding the presence of competing and fragmented identities that may arise.

With people sharing a common political mindset, minimal political tensions will exist. A failure would lead to national fragility and the popularization of conflicting factions that jeopardize the new nation’s sovereignty. A significant outcome of this would be a disinterest in the transformational identities and interests proposed by the administration, leading to tensions among a substantial percentage. Therefore, as a leader, it will be essential to encourage the people to believe in ethnicity, culture, genealogy, language, and customary laws, as they are the unique features that differentiate them from other people.

It is also essential to embrace people from other nations interested in being part of the Crescent Republic, especially those with similar characteristics. For instance, the unending debate about the Arab and Muslim identities in the American naturalization era had contravened beliefs about the state of such people. The argument was that they were not Americans since they observed cultural behavior typical of the average Arab or Muslim individual.

Since different individuals share similar characteristics, it is vital to uphold their legitimacy by establishing civic engagement tools, such as civic forums, culture promotion tools, sports, arts, literature, national symbols, and a national anthem. In a nutshell, the sovereignty and success of the Crescent Republic will be determined by four key factors, namely civic engagement, culture, and the establishment of inclusive institutions.
