Bluetooth is a short-range radio frequency technology that is designed to connect phones, laptops, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), and other portable devices with none or little input from the user. It is a high-speed, low-power wireless link that is capable of transmitting voice and data. This micro-wave radio frequency is transmitted through a distance of 10 centimeters to 10 meters. It transfers data at the rate of 1-3 Mbps which is thrice the average speed of parallel and serial ports. It allows internet access with a computer using a wireless connection to a cellular phone.
A Bluetooth dongle enables the user to synchronize a computer with a PDA to access emails, send texts, and transfer files. A Bluetooth headset is designed to be compatible with phones so as to pick a call while walking around.
