While referring to the example of World War II, it is possible to state that some great wars can be viewed as armed conflicts that are not based on revolutionary changes in all involved countries.
If the war is between two nations, in contrast to civil wars, the society can experience a military conflict that can result or not in a certain party’s uprising and political or economic upheaval. In some countries, war leads to great changes in the political and social order, altering the ruling party. On the contrary, in winning countries, wars can demonstrate the power and stability of a certain rule, and significant upheavals are not observed, especially, when the main battles are held in the lands of allies. There can be certain changes in the economic and social affairs of the nation, but the regime and a political course remain unaffected, as it was in the case of the United States participating in World War II.
It is possible to state that World War II missed specific elements of a revolution that has contributed to selecting this armed conflict as an example of the war without a revolution. There was no demonstrated people’s frustration that could lead to uprisings to change the existing order. Moreover, the population in the countries known as the Allies had no clear motivation to start the war to change the existing orders in their countries. However, on the other hand, civil wars usually have a revolutionary component in their nature, and they often lead to revolutions in contrast to international wars, in which several states participate. The reason is that, in civil wars, the interests of some party will be satisfied, and this process can be associated with remarkable changes in the political, economic, and social order.
