Amgen was very successful during the years 2000 to 2006, which was also Sharer’s first six years at the company. During that period, Amgen’s stock price grew from $60 when Sharer took over to over $70 at the end of that period. Its market capitalization grew to a level where it was one of the 25 most valuable companies in the U.S. at the time.
