Because of the rather close location, there were always opportunities for cooperation between Australia and China. Before talking about the company’s opportunities and threats in the Chinese market, it is important to briefly describe the business relations between Australia and China, their requirements toward conducting business, exporting or importing products, view on information transparency, intellectual rights, etc.

According to the Free Trade Agreement between these two countries, there are many regulatory and administrative issues that directly impact trade between them. Non-tariff measures that can impede trade and investment include, but are not limited to, issues such as lack of transparency, poor enforcement of intellectual property rights, non-science-based quarantine measures, customs procedures, administrative import requirements, burdensome technical regulations and standards and conformity, and restrictions on the mobility of business people. Transparency in administrative and decision-making processes is an important requirement of Australian companies toward doing business in China. It still has a lot to do in order to be an attractive market to enter and a reliable partner to make a profitable and reliable business.
