Describe the specific ways that different groups, including minorities and immigrants, are criminalized in this country. What are the effects of this criminalization? Refer to the Vargas reading “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant.”

Various groups, including minorities and immigrants, are criminalized, and it plays a great effect on those people’s lives. Sometimes, even living itself can be considered criminalization which is proved in Vargas’ reading. In the example of illegal immigrants, it is depicted that are located in the United States without any document supporting citizenship or the allowance of being in the country sometimes is rather controversial.

All activities usually performed by all people such as applying for a Social Security number, card, or driving license are considered illegal. People are scared of speaking with an accent, showing their family photos, and trusting others. Because of their fear of being found they barely have any friends and trust only those, who are in the same position. It applies not only to illegal immigrants but to any kind of minorities as well, because people always feel fear under pressure which lowers the efficiency of their social contacts and quality of living.
