Exchange of data occurs between different kinds of systems within a business enterprise. Transaction processing systems are the primary source of information for other systems, notably decision support systems and management information systems. Transaction processing systems collect transaction data and deliver it to both management information systems and decision support systems. Decision support systems, on the other hand, utilize data from management information systems and transaction processing systems, while management information systems depend on transaction processing systems. Executive support systems utilize data from the lower-level systems.
