Injuries are divided into two types, intentional and unintentional. Intentional injuries are those that are performed with the intent of causing injury. Suicide, homicide, sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, guns, and bias-related violence, are examples of intentional injuries. Unintentional injuries occur without the intent to inflict harm, and they are a significant cause of disability and death. More than 400 Americans die as a result of unintentional injuries such as suffocation, poisoning, motor vehicle accidents, and drowning. Because the risk of damage is so high, almost everyone suffers a severe injury at some point in their lives.
