Describe the decision process that would take place when attempting to decide between a paired t-test and Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed Rank Test.

Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed Rank Test is a traditional nonparametric test for the analysis of two paired samplings. It is used for the verification of the zero hypotheses and is quite similar to the paired t-test. According to Rietveld (2017), there are two main approaches to the WSR test, such as the exact test and its normal approximation. However, Wilcoxon’s test does not include a normal data distribution. With larger data sets, the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed Rank Test has greater power than the Student’s t-test.

Therefore, it is more likely to give a credible and statistically significant outcome. The evaluation of the sampling size is important to ensure, in case of the existence of a significant effect, it will be disclosed and will give statistically significant results. As such, the Wilcoxon test is best used with non-normal data and large sample sizes.
