The New Youth movement was developed by a group of students in China in the 1910s. It was a stepping stone for the Communist Party of the country. The disillusion with Western ideas led many young people to believe that the only way to enhance the progress of China was to reject ideas promoted by the West. The New Youth members wanted to change the education system to focus on modern problems and technologies. The choice of the preferred governmental system was given to a democratically elected parliament. The rise of the movement happened after World War I when Western countries did not return territories taken by Germany back to China, giving them to Japan instead. Perceiving this decision as a future source of exploitation, Chinese students formed a movement to protest the outside influence. As a result, the country’s ideology shifted towards nationalism, and China’s political values began shifting towards Marxism.
