Rousseau believed that humankind was a typical savage, fundamentally solitary, and primitive being in its natural state. Early man had a unique and quality lifestyle characterized by futility, independence, and solitude. However, features such as an innate sense of pity, perfectibility, and greater free will capacity made the primitive man different from the animals. According to Rousseau, the primitive man was naturally peaceful and sound, which mostly meant benevolence and virtuousness.
