There is a large variety of necessary characteristics and competencies that define the value of a manager. Regardless of management level, a qualified expert should demonstrate the predisposition to primary functions, such as planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling. Consequently, they should be committed to teamwork, initiate positive change in the organization, share their knowledge with employees, and always push for improvement. In turn, a poor manager provides little useful information, is content with narrow objectives, and maintains uncomfortable control over the team.

As a result, the differences in management styles are primarily reflected by the performance of employees. A good manager can improve overall productivity by motivating their team, allowing creative freedom, and emphasizing the personal qualities of each employee.
