Students with English as an additional language have a dual responsibility at school to learn through English and to learn English. Multilingualism and EAL affect literacy and learning development by switching back and forth between languages, and they become tired faster than those who use only English.

Unless observations are made on the communication skills, comprising body language and nonverbal gestures, multilingual and EAL children, consistency is lost, making it difficult to learn languages since responding to words becomes exhaustive.

For children with specific learning difficulties (SpLD), the absence of automatic speech recognition means more words are lost due to short-term memory making it difficult to maintain consistency in language learning. The case worsens when the child switches between languages because the child has difficulty retaining every word learned.
