Define the following terms: a. Pharmacokinetics, b. Pharmacodynamics, c. Bioavailability, d. First pass effect, e. Drug indication, f. Drug contraindication, g. Adverse drug reaction, h. Therapeutic range, i. Toxicology.

a. Pharmacokinetics- The study of the chemical processes that happen to a drug from administration to excretion, including absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. It describes the changes that occur to a drug from intake to excretion.

b. Pharmacodynamics- The study of how drugs affect the body of an organism. It involves the changes that happen in the body of an organism as occasioned by the drug.

c. Bioavailability- The proportion of the unchanged drug that enters the systemic circulation, thus contributing to the pharmacodynamics aspect.

d. First pass effect – The uptake and metabolism of a drug into inactive components by the liver before entering the systemic circulation.

e. Drug indication – The usage of a given drug to treat a specific condition.

f. Drug contraindication- The avoidance of using a certain drug to treat an identified condition due to potential cause of harm to the organism taking it. At times, administering a certain drug may cause more harm than positive outcomes, and thus the drug should not be used in such cases.

g. Adverse drug reaction – The unwanted or harmful effects that a drug causes to an organism.

h. Therapeutic range – Drug concentrations to achieve the desired effects. Different drugs function at varied concentrations, and thus the optimal point should be established to achieve the best results.

i. Toxicology – The study of nature, effects, and detection of toxins in an organism.
