The similarities identified across the three stages of development are based on the view that children learn about different life aspects from caregivers or parents. For instance, the use of the toilet is learned first at home, and the experience is carried through preschool years to the school-age stage. Similarly, simple tasks like brushing teeth are introduced at the toddler stage, and they are carried on through different stages of child development. On the other hand, the differences expected in the assessment of the different childhood groups hinge on the source of influence. For instance, on sexuality, toddlers mainly learn from their parents and caregivers. However, preschoolers and school-age children have access to the Internet and other media to learn about their sexuality. Additionally, they can be influenced by friends at school.
