Compare and contrast an expense center and an investment center.

Expense or cost centers are usually responsible for expense items only and do not produce any direct revenue. Investment centers have revenues as well as expenses and an investment base. The main function of an expense center is to provide the long-run minimization of expenses. Investment centers take care of the return of investment and residual income.
