A cart on a track will collide with a stationary cart. Force sensors in the smart carts are used to determine the magnitude of the applied force, and the motion sensors in the smart carts are used to track the motion of the carts. The impulse acting on the stationary cart is the independent variable of interest. What factors might have an impact on the motion of the stationary cart? Which factors are not quantifiable or over which you have little or no control? Of the factors you consider, which directly relate to each other? If the impulse is the independent variable, can you identify the dependent variables?
