Certainly, some people watched video “I am an Actor and I am a Vegetarian: Now Featuring Alicia Silverstone” because they wanted to see a nude woman. What is a prurient interest? Make the case that this video promotes a prurient interest.

American Psychological Association’s dictionary describes prurient interest as: “a morbid, degrading, or excessive interest in sexual matters.” People tend to always react to such ways of getting attention because of their basic human mating drive. The video “I am an Actor and I am a Vegetarian: Now Featuring Alicia Silverstone” promotes prurient interest because if the voice and the PETA’s background were removed, only a naked woman would stay. A woman who is slowly coming out of water cannot be related to anything but prurient interest.

PETA should feel ethically ashamed of promoting the video because it is an organization with a serious mission. They might have the reason to draw that much attention as nonprofits who depend on donations and require constant publicity. However, many other actions can be done to engage people, such as promoting vegetarianism by interviews with celebrities about it. The video calls for the prurient interest, and people with strict cultural ethics might feel ashamed about themselves after watching it. Moreover, if a child watches this video, they would not relate vegetarianism and a naked woman and can harm their psychology with an inappropriate image for their age. All of these factors do not promote vegetarianism, PETA, and their mission in general; they only raise ethical and moral questions.
