Beginning for a research
We were to choose a topic for the research paper, so I took “whether doctors should be allowed to provide assistance for suicides in particular states” (the answer is supposed to be – it depends).
The subject is defined, but I have no idea what to start with.
You initially complicate the issue as you intend to cover two complex aspects: medical ethics and the rights of particular states versus the governmental ones. Still as long as the topic is admitted you might introduce a couple of contradicting examples. For instance, you can describe a case of a lonely elderly lady that faces some financial troubles and is eager to put an end to her misadventures.
And the second example can illustrate the case of a young boy who is in a coma and his relatives are in two minds whether to give him a chance or to finish it all up. Anyway, the examples you provide should logically lead to your thesis statement.
Work out an accurate outline. Make sure it includes all the necessary parts: introduction, background, literature review, the research itself, the results analysis and recommendations.
Search the web for some guidelines that’ll help you organize the references.
I suggest you start with a brief background reference. Say a few words about the problem of suicide and the contradictions that exist in this framework.
You can also include some information on how other researchers treat this question.
State the thesis and add a few lines revealing its meaning. Put an emphasis on the importance of this problem to the society.
Focus on your thesis statement. As far as you manage to make a good thesis it’ll be easier for you to work on the rest of the paper.
I advise you to consult some web sources, there are loads of those that describe how to write a research paper in details. I can send you some links if you wish.
