Australia has made a number of great contributions to the World Heritage Convention in the period from 2007 till 2011. There have been founded different organizations to increase the integrity of the World Heritage Convention, contributions to expertise in order to make the policies more effective in protection, preserving, and recognition of the World Heritage by Australia during this period.
Australia has organized and co-sponsored a number of meetings to improve the current situation of the World Heritage: “Upstream processes”, “Decision-making procedures”, “State of conservation issues” and others. The Pacific is the least represented area in the World Heritage and Australia has helped to solve this problem by electing Vice-president for Asia-Pacific and allocating money to World Heritage activities in the Pacific.
Australia is interested in this Convention as far as there are a lot of places that need special protection in this place. Nevertheless, there are some issues confronting the World Heritage system during this period. It should be noted that each State Party is responsible for the protection, preservation, and conservation of World Heritage but there are a lot of sub-regions in the World who also want to be included in this Convention and protect their heritage.
The Pacific Ocean also belongs to such sub-regions and Australia has tried to solve this problem. Nevertheless, it is still unsolved as far as there are a lot of places in the world that need particular attention but nobody knows about them or the countries where these places are do not want to take part in this Convention. The current aims of the World Heritage Convention are to improve training, communication, and funding for World Heritage assisting these sub-regions.
