Aspects of Progressiveness of Science

Is science progressive, or does it simply change over time with no discernible improvement? Present the views of Lakatos and Kuhn concerning this issue.

To answer this question, attempt to determine whether scientific change is rationally appraisable. Another way of looking at this issue is to ask whether science admits to a general method for the production of satisfactory results, or whether its methodological characteristics shift and undergo irrevocable metamorphosis over time. An adequate response to this question will explore the degree to which the history of science (which is ordinarily thought of as a descriptive undertaking) can provide you with normative directives.
