Martin Wolfgang developed the subculture of violence thesis in 1958. According to the thesis, the primary motivation underlying homicide is pressure from peers and violent reinforcement in the community, which results in an individual’s constant readiness to commit violence. Therefore, living in a community with people who support violence reduces the individual’s sense of guilt.
