McAdams’ arguments regarding a person’s identity and its definition do not solely depend on basic personal preferences and personality. He states that the life stories of people are formed as a result of their perception of self and the reaction of the audience. In other words, people do not list facts but form stories that have a narrative meaning. The idea of identity is formed as a result of the formation of these stories. A person’s understanding of self is manifested in the form of a narrative, which he or she formulates through a lifespan. According to recent studies, an individual’s life story is a cornerstone of his or her ambitions and sense of identity, which cannot be manifested only in personal characteristics or concerns. In addition, it is important to understand that the given narrative possesses a clear and concise ending, middle stage, and start, which is highly influenced by the occurrences in the infancy period.
