A Teaching Plan for a Client With Crohn’s Disease

Create a teaching plan for the client who has suffered from Crohn’s disease for 20 years. Identify two learning needs for the client and describe your rationale for each learning need.

Mr. Kamiski is 45 years old and currently has a BMI of 23 and has struggled with maintaining a healthy weight since his diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. He recently had his large bowel removed and now has an ileostomy. He is having difficulty with the change in his body image. While in the hospital, he is reluctant to empty the pouch and change the ostomy appliance system. He has been taking low doses of prednisone once a day for the last year. When emptying the ostomy pouch, his stool is loose and pasty in consistency. The pouch needs emptying six times a day.
