A Problem of Motivation in the Department of Human Services

What do theories of motivation suggest the supervisor should do or say as a consequence of defining the problem with employees from the motivation perspective?

Jess Johnson is a director of a unit in the state’s Department of Human Services. Susan Jones and Bob Martin were two of the new employees Jess hired. Within six months of his hiring, Bob developed poor work habits (e.g., long breaks, tardiness, and absenteeism). Susan has ceased to check with Jess on important policy matters before speaking to external groups. The problems with Susan and Bob are beginning to drag down the morale of the other employees. Define the problems, in this case, using as many theories of motivation as you think might apply.
