A Five-page paper on a 100-page source
As I see it, it lacks logic somewhere. Seriously, a five-pager on a short story?
On a topic like, say, WWI you can write a great big essay because it has an information galore, but I don’t think I will make for a five-page paper on that one, even if I really spread out the word count.
Well, actually, you can do that. I have myself, so you can take my word for that. I’d to good to know a little more about your assignment, but supposing it is your basic book review, you can focus on the image of the main character (if it is fiction), what techniques does ze use to draw the attention of the audience/influence their opinions, etc. (if you write on non-fiction).
You can use your basic format for essays: introduction – background – thesis – arguments and rebuttal – conclusion, it’ll help to make your essay convincing.
Even a story or another piece of work that short can influence the movement of minds.
You just try and find some feedback, critique, etc. P.S.: nice to see the previous scholar using gender-neutral pronouns, btw.
Try to brainstorm the source for the topics to write on. You’d better name the book you write on so that we could be of better help.
There are many short books and stories with long analyses. You can pick some works on Hemingway’s stories and follow the structure, like, overview the plot, list the main characters, analyse them, then you get at images of this and that, motifs, and which motif symbolises what, that sort of thing.
