a. Tracheostomy suctioning attempts should be performed with time intervals between the suctions. This procedure involves risks of causing bradycardia. It causes stimulating the vagal nerve, as well as hypoxia.

b. A nurse should consider determining the chest drain insertion site depending on what is to be cleared from the lungs. Thus, the nurse should remember that fluid is collected at the lung bottom, and the air is better to remove from the lung top. The nurse should also consider the correct assembling of the underwater seal chest derange system and the ways to ensure the patient that everything is under control during the procedure.

c. When caring for a patient with an intercostal catheter, the nurse should consider keeping the patient clean, comfortable, and dry during the procedure. The other consideration is ordering a chest x-ray. The nurse should also consider documenting the procedure after it is performed.

d. Complications from CPAP might include decreased cardiac output, mucus plugging, gastric distension, nasal and oral dryness, secretions inside the patient’s mask, and irritations of the eyes due to air leak, to name a few. Complications from BIPAP include barotrauma, aspiration, hypotension, pneumothorax, and mucinous membranes drying. Complications from the PICC line include difficulty breathing or chest pain and temperature rise.
